PRESS STATEMENT ✍️ GALAMSEY: PARTNERSHIP MUST DELIVER ENFORCEMENT, RESTORATION AND MEASURABLE RESULTS

Table of Content

Ghana’s decision to deepen cooperation with China in the fight against galamsey is welcome. But Ghanaians have heard enough promises. This partnership must now produce clear, measurable and time-bound results.

The Government must publish a concrete implementation plan, identify responsible agencies and report publicly on progress. If Chinese nationals involved in illegal mining will face sanctions, arrests, prosecutions and asset seizures must begin immediately, follow due process and apply equally to every offender, regardless of nationality or political connection.

If technology transfer is part of the new strategy, deploy it without delay to track mining equipment, identify financiers and operators, monitor protected areas, secure mining sites, detect pollution and support the restoration of destroyed forests and contaminated water bodies.
Ghana-China cooperation must move beyond conferences, diplomatic statements and investment deals.

It must deliver joint operations, intelligence sharing, equipment, prosecutions and independently verifiable environmental restoration.
Our forests are disappearing. Our rivers are being destroyed. Our future is being mined away. Every day of delay causes further damage and increases the cost of recovery.

The fight against galamsey cannot be selective or politically convenient. Foreign financiers, local collaborators, illegal miners, equipment owners and compromised officials must all be investigated, prosecuted and held accountable under the law.

The Government must set and enforce deadlines for action, publish regular progress reports and ensure that affected communities have access to safe water and meaningful restoration support.
Ghana needs ACTION, ACCOUNTABILITY AND RESULTS—NOW.
No more talk. Deploy the resources. Enforce the law. Save our water. Protect our forests. End galamsey.
