Officials of the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) have begun marking buildings and structures situated under high tension power lines for demolition.

The exercise was observed today 16th September 2026, when some staff of GRIDCo in their uniforms were spotted on location with their vehicles, marking warning signs on affected buildings.

Speaking to Garden City News GH upon intervention, the officers disclosed that they are marking those buildings as part of a planned demolition exercise scheduled to take place next month.

According to them, the structures built directly under the high tension wires are not safe and pose a serious danger to occupants.

They explained that the lands under the high tension wires belong to GRIDCo and the structures on it are illegal. The move is therefore to eject all encroachers and save lives.

Residents and property owners whose buildings have been marked are expected to vacate before the demolition begins next month to avoid loss of property.

The officers advised the public to desist from building under high tension lines, as it is dangerous and prohibited by law.

Efforts to get official statement from GRIDCo headquarters is underway. Garden City News GH will keep readers updated.
