The Black Stars of Ghana will begin their journey to return to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) this Wednesday, September 24, 2026, as the road to AFCON 2027 kicks off.
Ghana has been drawn in Group C of the qualifiers alongside West African giants Côte d’Ivoire, The Gambia, and Somalia.
The draw, conducted in May 2026, sets up a blockbuster start for Ghana who missed the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.
Ghana’s Group C Opponents
1. Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast)- Defending Champions
2. Ghana – 4-time AFCON winners
3. The Gambia
4. Somalia
According to CAF, the top two teams from each group will qualify automatically for the 2027 AFCON to be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
Ghana will face a tough opening test against Côte d’Ivoire on Wednesday, September 24, at the Stade de la Paix in Bouaké, Ivory Coast. Kick-off is 7:00 PM GMT.
The Black Stars will then return home to host The Gambia on Monday, September 29, 2026, at 4:00 PM GMT.
Coach Carlos Quirez’s men will need a strong start in Kumasi and across the country as fans in the Ashanti Region hope for a return to the continental showpiece.
Other fixtures in the group will continue in November 2026 and March 2027.
