A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Yaw Adomako Baafi, has launched a scathing attack on the current government over its handling of the illegal mining (galamsey) menace.

Speaking in an exclusive interview on Okese FM Morning Show with Worshippa, the outspoken politician described the government’s approach as weak and disappointing, claiming the situation has worsened.

According to Adomako Baafi, the extent of the problem is so bad that even the President has had cause to question some of his own appointees over alleged involvement in galamsey.

He made several allegations during the interview, claimed that the Chiefs and people of Samreboi have accused their Member of Parliament of involvement in illegal mining activities.
He alleged that NDC National Organizer Joseph Yamin and first Vice Chairman Abanga, have been mentioned in galamsey-related issues.

He also alleged that the famous Tarkwa market area has now been turned into a galamsey site.
The former NPP National Communications Director again made a damning allegation that the DCE for Enchi is allegedly using a government-procured DRIP machine meant for road construction for galamsey operations.

“The way this government is handling galamsey is not the best. How can you fight galamsey when your own people are accused of being involved? Even the President himself is complaining about his appointees,” Adomako Baafi stated.

He called on the Mahama-led administration to be bold and crack the whip irrespective of party affiliation.
