The Founder and Leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Kofi Akpaloo, has made a bold statement regarding the controversial Tribunal Bill recently passed into law.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Worshippa on Okese Morning Show on Okese FM, Akpaloo stated emphatically that a thousand times he would not have passed the Tribunal Bill into law if he were the President of Ghana.
However, in a surprising twist, the LPG leader was quick to add that Ghanaians need to understand and respect President John Dramani Mahama’s decision to assent to the bill, noting that the President only knows why he took that decision.
According to Kofi Akpaloo, we are in a different era now as compared to the military regime era where tribunals were full of manipulations and human rights abuses.
“We are in a different era now. During the military regime, tribunal was full of manipulations. But today things have changed. Even though me, a thousand times I wouldn’t have passed it if I was President, we must try to understand why the President passed it. He only knows why,” Kofi Akpaloo stated on Okese FM.
His comments come amid heated public debate over the return of tribunals in Ghana’s justice system, with many Ghanaians expressing fear of a return to the dark days.
