"CAN WE SAVE THE GARDEN CITY? KMA CALLS FOR TEAMWORK AS WASTE BILLS DRAIN CHOKED BUDGET"

The beauty and progress of Kumasi no longer depend just on the government, but on the daily choices of its people.
The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has opened up about the severe financial challenges currently hitting our city according to the KMA Boss King Zuba.

With the political separation of Asokwa and Suame, the central assembly lost its most vibrant commercial hubs. The local Internally Generated Fund (IGF) has shrunk drastically, leaving Kumasi without the massive financial safety net it once enjoyed.
Despite having less money to work with, the assembly’s highest expenditure is still going toward environment, sanitation, and waste management.

According to the KMA leadership in an interview with Worshippa on Okese FM, the heavy financial burden is completely preventable. It is being driven by the carelessness of citizens who continue to dump refuse into gutters, litter the streets, and neglect their immediate surroundings.
Every time a resident throws trash out of a car window or dumps household waste into a drainage system, public funds are redirected away from community needs.

Money meant for fixing inner-city roads, upgrading local clinics, and improving community markets is instead being swallowed up by the endless cycle of clearing mountains of avoidable filth.
He stressed on the need to protect our shared spaces and secure the future of our children, the KMA is calling for an immediate change in public attitude. The assembly wants to ensure that every resident abides by the simple, common rule of keeping their immediate environment clean.

“We must look out for one another and hold our neighbors accountable,” city leaders urged.
While the KMA is stepping up the enforcement of environmental bylaws and introducing stricter penalties for polluters, the ultimate goal is not to punish—it is to inspire community pride. By taking care of our waste properly, we can stop draining Kumasi’s limited resources and finally see our taxes used for the real development our neighborhoods deserve.
