YOUR LYRICS LACK CONTENT – OBRAFOUR SLAMS TODAY’S MUSICIANS

Table of Content

Rap legend Obrafour has not held back his words as he takes a swipe at the lyrical content of present-day Ghanaian musicians.

In an exclusive interview with GardenCityNewsGh.com, the multiple award-winning rapper, popularly known as Rap Sofo, expressed deep concern about the direction of Ghanaian music lyrically.

According to Obrafour, most songs being released today lack substance, message, and content, unlike the days when music was used to educate and inspire society.

“Most of the songs today lack content. Everyone is talking about the same thing – girls, money, cars, alcohol. Where is the message? Where is the life lesson? Music should have soul,” Obrafour lamented.

The ‘Pae Mu Ka’ hitmaker challenged current musicians to be dynamic and versatile, rather than following the same trend just to get TikTok views.

“A good musician must be dynamic. You must be able to touch every topic – life, struggle, love, society, God. You can’t be singing about ‘shuperu’ everyday. After dancing, what will the listener take home? We need to go back to writing meaningful lyrics,” he stressed.

Obrafour, who is widely regarded as Ghana’s greatest rapper of all time due to his deep, proverbial and educative lyrics, advised young rappers to study, read, and learn from legends if they want their music to last beyond one year.

His bold statement is already generating heated debate on social media, with some agreeing with the legend while others argue that times have changed and music is now about vibes, not grammar.
