Veteran Ghanaian actor and broadcaster, Akwasi Boadi, widely known as Akrobeto, has once again ignited a national conversation this time on the need for Ghanaians to prioritize our local languages over foreign ones.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with gardencitynewsgh.com he made a bold statement that will set social media ablaze, the Real News host questioned why Ghana continues to hold English as the ultimate standard for intelligence and success.
According to him, if you go to China, they speak Chinese. Italians speak Italiano. Germans speak German. Spanish speak Spanish. So why must Ghana abandon its own rich languages to glorify English?
“IT’S A LIE THAT YOU MUST SPEAK ENGLISH TO BE SUCCESSFUL”
Akrobeto, who has become one of the most successful and wealthiest personalities in Ghana’s creative industry despite not having formal higher education, described the notion that one must go to school, speak perfect English and acquire certificates to become successful as a big lie and a waste of time.
For him, talent, hard work, consistency and God-given grace are what make a man not grammar.
He attributed his own wealth, fame and international recognition not to classroom education, but to his natural talent and dedication to his craft.
The UTV star, whose news satire show has been featured on international platforms like CNN, is a living proof that local language is power. He presents his news in Twi and has built a global brand out of it.
A CALL TO EMBRACE OUR IDENTITY
Akrobeto’s call is simple: Let us be proud of Twi, Ewe, Ga, Dagbani, Nzema and all our local dialects. They are not inferior — they are our identity.
Ghana must rise to build its development on its own cultural foundation, not on borrowed language.
What do you think? Is Akrobeto right? Should local language be made the official means of communication in Ghana?
