Renowned Ghanaian gospel musician Mama Esther has shared a deeply touching and inspirational story about her humble beginnings in music.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Worshippa on GardenCityNewsGh.com, the celebrated gospel icon disclosed that although she started singing as a child, she never dreamt of becoming a professional musician.
According to Mama Esther, music for her was just service to God in her local church, where she sang passionately every Sunday without any intention of fame.
Her life however took a dramatic turn one faithful day when she was invited to sing at a wedding ceremony.
“I started singing when I was very small, but I never knew I could become a musician. I was just singing in my church to praise God. Then one day I sang at a wedding ceremony, and a sound engineer who was also at the program heard me,” Mama Esther recounted.
“After the program, he came to me and said, ‘Sister, you have a powerful voice, you need to come to my studio for recordings.’ That was how my journey started,” she added with smiles.
Mama Esther said that single encounter opened the doors to her recording career, which has since blessed many souls across Ghana and beyond.
She used the opportunity to advise young and upcoming gospel artistes not to despise humble beginnings and to always sing with their heart to God, because you never know who is listening.
